Chiropractic Came As A Surprise
"Never in my wildest imagination could I see myself sitting in the examination room of a chiropractor. After eighteen months since my baseball injury, I could no longer raise my right arm. The pain was constant and getting worse month by month. I thought I had done all the right things. I tried rest, medication, therapy and was now approaching surgery. At twenty-five I thought my days of playing sports were over. My new girlfriend suggested that I see her doctor. In fact she made an appointment for me to see a well known chiropractor, Dr. Herbert Anderson, in Medford, Massachusetts. Believe me, I was more than nervous and apprehensive. But, this doctor was different. He listened! Even his exam was different. He explained what he found on my exam and how he felt he could help me that very day. I was ready for his help. I expected a 'bang or a crunch'. I expected his treatment to hurt. Neither happened. Absolutely amazed, I raised my arm up, forward and backward for the first time in over a year. In three weeks I was playing tennis and pain free.
This is how my chiropractic journey began. I thought my experience was a miracle. I soon learned from others about their positive experiences from chiropractic care. I knew that I experienced an extraordinary exam, performed by an extraordinary doctor, who provided extraordinary care. I quickly became a big chiropractic advocate. Chiropractic care or 'adjustments' became my first line of defense against injuries and part of my lifestyle.
Chiropractic Lifestyle
My growing belief in chiropractic led to a life changing decision. After seven years as a teacher, I enrolled at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis. I believed so strongly that if chiropractic could change my life, then this was the way that I wanted to serve others.
Wellness allows me to think and act young. Aging is natural, decay is not. As part of the 'baby boomer' generation I still do everything and even more than when I was 25. I exercise daily and continue to enjoy skiing, kayaking, tennis, biking and sailing. Oh yes, maybe not at the same intensity, but I'm out there everyday and plan to do so into my 80's and 90's.
My initial visit to a chiropractor was truly a life changing event. It brought me to the most exciting career one could ever imagine. The young gal, Sue, that brought me to Dr. Anderson's office -- well, I married her. Sue and I have three grown children: Doug, Karen and Andrew. All of our children have had chiropractic adjustments since they were infants and today they lead healthy and vibrant lives.
